I am international student planning to attend a 3 week NYU summer course next summer (the first session - May to June). My friend is not taking a course, but is coming with me. I noticed on the site it said that unless you are taking a course, you cannot sign in to housing for the first week of the first session. Would my friend not be able to stay with me the first week, or did I misunderstand this?

That is correct, he would not be able to stay for the first week. The only people eligible to stay for the first week of our summer housing program are those people who are either currently in spring housing and are transitioning to summer housing or those who are taking a course that begins on May 17, 2010.
